Despite being barely old enough to finish high school, local women’s golf phenom Gina Kim–a Chapel Hill native who is committed to play for Duke next season–qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open on Monday.

Kim, a senior at Chapel Hill High School, accomplished the feat after finishing 6-under-par in the two-round qualifying tournament held Monday at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sobot, Virginia.

She finished tied for third out of 80 players and earned one of four qualifying bids, and was the only amateur to advance to the prestigious tournament.

The U.S. Women’s Open will be held in Shoal Creek, Alabama from May 31 through June 3.
