The UNC women’s tennis team’s season came to an end in the Final Four for the third straight season, as the Tar Heels fell 4-2 to No. 4 seed and defending national champion Texas.

Carolina dropped the doubles point for the first time all tournament, and couldn’t make up the difference in the singles portion of the match. Fiona Crawley did her best to try, though, finishing off a dominant straight sets win 6-0, 6-4 to get UNC back on level terms in the match. But the Longhorns would win the next two singles matches, including a hard-fought encounter between Cameron Morra, ranked No. 5 in singles, and Texas’ Peyton Stearns, ranked No. 2. Though Stearns ended up winning in straight sets, the two battled through a marathon second-set tiebreak which eventually went the way of Texas, 11-9.

Anika Yarlagadda got one point back for Carolina with a straight sets win of her own, moving the score to 3-2 Texas. But Carson Tanguilig wasn’t able to capitalize on a first set win in her singles match, dropping the final two 3-6, 5-7. The result sealed the match for the Longhorns, who will advance to Sunday’s NCAA title match.

The UNC women’s tennis program is still searching for its first NCAA team title, though several members of the team, including the doubles pair of Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, will be competing in the individual NCAA Championships next week.
