The UNC men’s soccer team suffered its second straight blowout loss in ACC play Sunday night, when rival Duke came to Dorrance Field and left with an emphatic 3-0 victory.

Despite being outshot 11-3 in the first half, the Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead within 13 minutes and held it the rest of the way.

A pair of broken plays led to the first two Duke goals, with Shakur Muhammad and Amir Daley both scoring off rebounds in front of UNC goalkeeper Alec Smir. Another deflection resulted in Duke’s third goal in the second half, when the Blue Devils’ Scotty Taylor collected a ricochet off UNC’s Jonathan Sinclair and put it in the back of the net.

At the end of 90 minutes, the Tar Heels had outshot the Blue Devils 17-4, but hadn’t made a dent in the scoreboard.

Carolina has been outscored 7-0 in its first two ACC games of the season. Head coach Carlos Somoano and the Tar Heels will have six days to recover before taking the field again, this time in a road matchup in Charlottesville, VA with Virginia. The Cavaliers are 2-3-1 on the season, and are also 0-2 in ACC play so far.
