UNC football head coach Mack Brown joined 97.9 The Hill this morning for “Mondays with Mack,” presented by Chapel Hill Tire.

Before enjoying another bye week, Brown and the Tar Heels earned their second straight dominant win by thrashing Florida State 35-11 in Tallahassee on November 2. It was the first win for Brown against his alma mater. Now, UNC returns home with a chance to secure bowl eligibility against Wake Forest.

Here are a few of Brown’s answers on various topics:

On celebrating Veterans Day: We honor our military this time of the year, and we really should do that every day of the year because we couldn’t have the freedom that we’ve got in our country without the wonderful people that fight and serve to help keep us safe every day of our lives. So for all of you that are veterans, thank you for all of you that are continuing to fight. Thank you for all of you that are sacrificing and aren’t home with your families and aren’t home for holidays and miss so many wonderful things that the rest of us get to enjoy because of you. Thank you so much and please stay safe and get home safe.

On the team’s second bye week: Normally, you would not want two bye weeks this close together. But we need to get healthy. We need to rest a guy like Omarion Hampton who touched the ball 30-plus times at Florida State, so it gives him a great week to rest and get his body back in shape and get him ready to go for Wake Forest. Wake Forest has a very unique offense. They’re very different, so [the bye week] gave us a little bit more time to work on their stuff. And then it gives you time to look at all your young players and talk about who needs to redshirt here over the next three games and look at your depth chart for the spring and look at your [transfer] portal needs. So it’s really just a time to step back, rest up, continue to grow, work on your next opponent.

On his message to the fans ahead of Saturday’s game: Our seniors have two games left. We haven’t played very well at home. We’ve had our better games on the road. It’s a “Blue Out,” so we’re asking everybody to wear Carolina Blue. We’re asking everybody to get there early. Let’s fill it up. It’s right at a sellout. Let’s send these seniors out right. They’ve played tremendously well for the last two weeks. We can get bowl-eligible this weekend with a win. Wake Forest has a good team. They always come in here and play us great. So it should be a great game. It’s on ACC Network, so it’ll be a national TV game. So I just encourage everybody to come out, pick this team up and thank them for the last two weeks with how hard they’ve played.
