UNC football head coach Mack Brown joined 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck this morning for “Mondays with Mack,” presented by Chapel Hill Tire.

It was a day to forget for Brown and the Tar Heels on Saturday, as Carolina’s winning streak came to a screeching halt in a 41-21 blowout loss to Boston College. Now, UNC will have to rebound when NC State visits Kenan Stadium this weekend. The Wolfpack have won three straight games in the series, and like Boston College will need to beat Carolina to clinch bowl eligibility.

Here are a few of Brown’s answers on various topics:

On the loss to Boston College: It was obviously very disappointing. We’d had our backs to the wall and won three straight. We were playing really, really well at a high level, and I’m not sure after looking at it, and I was concerned about this, that we weren’t comfortable and started feeling good about ourselves. And Boston College was desperate. They had to win to get to a bowl game. They always play better at home. They’d only lost one home game. And they just outplayed us and outcoached us. It’s very disappointing and we’ve been inconsistent this year, but now we gotta learn from it and pick it up and go back and play a huge game against NC State this weekend.

On how to improve this week: We’ve gotta go back and run the ball better and be who we are. We only had the ball for five plays in the first quarter and then we had the ball 19 plays in the first half. So we never got on track offensively, and it’s because they stayed on the field defensively. We played hard, did some good things, but they just played better. So we’ve gotta go back and be us. We’ve gotta be more balanced on offense. We gotta get Omarion the ball. He only touched it 14 times the other night and he’s been touching at 30.

On preparing for NC State: You have to be careful not to be so excited that you play the game on Tuesday. And both teams need a win, and both teams are coming off of a tough loss. It’s something that obviously is very, very important to your fanbase. When you start looking at the rivalry with Duke and the rivalry with the NC State, they’re huge games for our school. They’ve played and finished better in this game than we have the last couple of years. Two of them came down to the last play and then last year they just beat us up. So it’s really, really important that we coach and play good like it is every week, but they’re just a little extra pep in your step this week because of what it means to your fanbase.

On his message to the fans: Carolina fans have been great. They’ve been positive through some ups and downs and inconsistency, but we need your help more than ever before on Saturday afternoon at 3:30. It’s gonna be a beautiful day. It’ll be a little cool, but let’s come out and help us beat NC State.
