This week is a lighter one in local government, with a handful of elected boards taking the week off due to the Veterans Day holiday on Monday. Tops on the agenda: the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider a proposed 8-story apartment complex on MLK Boulevard, while Orange County Commissioners discuss land use and capital investment.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Hillsborough town board meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, with an agenda that includes a neighborhood request for traffic calming measures on Rainey Avenue and an amendment to the master plan for the Paliouras Tract, guiding development on the east side of NC-86 just south of I-85. Orange County Commissioners also meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, in the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead Road. Commissioners will receive a consultant’s briefing on Orange County’s Land Use Plan 2050; they’ll discuss possible changes to streamline and clarify the process for approving affordable housing and capital investment plans; and they’ll review a draft policy guiding future capital investment for schools. And the Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 13. On the agenda: the council will consider an amendment making technical corrections to the town’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO), and they’ll hear a concept plan for a proposed 8-story multi-family apartment building at 701 MLK Boulevard. In addition, the council will open the floor for public comment on housing and community development needs, as the town considers how to use Community Development Block Grant funds in the coming year. Chatham and Durham Counties
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 12. Their agenda includes a quarterly financial report; a project update from the state department of transportation; and a proposed budget amendment for downtown streetscapes, following the approval of an $850,000 state funding grant. Finally, Durham County Commissioners meet twice on Tuesday, November 12: first, a joint meeting with the school board at 9 a.m., followed by their regular meeting at 7 p.m.
