Incoming UNC freshman Jefferson Boaz was selected Monday as the NCHSAA Male Athlete of the Year after a fantastic senior season where he led East Surry High School to the 1AA state championship.
The 6-foot-7-inch native of Pilot Mountain signed with the Tar Heels as an athlete, but was primarily a quarterback in high school.
In 2019, Boaz threw for 4,615 yards and 65 touchdowns while also running for 466 yards and 17 touchdowns. East Surry finished the year with a perfect 15-0 record.
