Mack Brown has already re-written the UNC football record book with his 2022 recruiting class. But even after nabbing two five-star recruits, he wasn’t done. Wednesday night saw four-star wide receiver prospect Andre Greene, Jr. commit to Brown and the Tar Heels over finalists Georgia and Clemson.

“I feel like I’ll be most successful [at UNC],” Greene said of his commitment. “On the field, off the field and in the classroom. It’s not just football when I talk to the coaches there. It’s truly a family.”

Greene is rated as the No. 9 receiver in the country and No. 71 player overall. His commitment gives Carolina four players in the nation’s top 100, after five-star offensive lineman Zach Rice and five-star defensive lineman Travis Shaw.

Like Rice, Greene is from Virginia, and is the seventh Virginian in UNC’s 2022 recruiting class. He is the second receiver in the class to commit to Carolina, after four-star prospect Tychaun Chapman, who is also from Virginia. His commitment provides a boon for a UNC receiving group which has been decimated by a combination of pro departures, injuries and transfers this season. Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome both left Chapel Hill after the 2020 season, while Emery Simmons and Khafre Brown entered the transfer portal this fall. Senior Beau Corrales has not played a single snap this year. Of the 16 wide receivers listed on UNC’s depth chart, 12 are either freshmen or sophomores.

Greene plays both football and basketball for St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, VA. During his school’s three-game spring season in 2021, Greene amassed 234 receiving yards and two touchdowns. 247 Sports describes Greene as “extremely quick off [the] line of scrimmage with explosion,” and someone who “gets into his route swiftly and accelerates out [of] his breaks well.” It also describes his change of direction as “elite,” and projects him as a late-round pick in the NFL Draft.

Greene visited Chapel Hill for UNC’s 38-7 home win over Duke in October. His commitment moves UNC’s 2022 class up to No. 9 in the country. It is the highest-rated class among ACC schools.
