A week into her final season as a Tar Heel, UNC field hockey superstar Erin Matson is already collecting hardware. After a weekend in Winston-Salem which saw Carolina take down two Top 5 teams, Matson was named the Offensive Player of the Week both in the ACC and nationally.

In wins over No. 3 Michigan and No. 5 Iowa, Matson scored two goals and took a team-high 13 shots, nine of which were on goal. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Hawkeyes, capping off a comeback from a 2-0 halftime deficit. It was the 25th game-winning goal of her decorated career.

Matson is one of just 13 players in the history of college field hockey to score 100 or more goals, a feat which she accomplished last season. She is also the four-time reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Year. And if the first week is any indication, she’s on track to win that award for an unprecedented fifth time.

Matson and the Tar Heels will play in their home opener this weekend against Princeton. That game will begin at 5 p.m. and will stream on ACC Network Extra. Carolina will then host Penn at Karen Shelton Stadium the following Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
