UNC scored six goals in the third quarter to blow the game open at Saint Joseph’s Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, and the Tar Heels won 8-0 for their fourth consecutive victory.

Carolina controlled possession and all of the game’s offensive chances early, but despite that still entered the second quarter locked in a scoreless tie with the Hawks. Ryleigh Heck finally broke the dam early in the quarter, converting a penalty stroke to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead. Coco Courtright doubled that lead barely a minute later off a penalty corner.

The goals came fast and furious in the third quarter, as Sofia Ferri, Charly Bruder and Cecily Moorhead all scored in a span of 3:36 of game time, pushing the advantage to 5-0. Bruder and Hope Haynes each added goals before the end of the quarter, with Bruder scoring twice to record a hat trick – her first of the season – in less than 15 minutes.

UNC held Saint Joseph’s without a single shot on target, marking the second time the Tar Heels have done so to an opponent this season. During Carolina’s four-game winning streak, it has allowed just three total shots on target. In that same stretch, the Tar Heels have totaled 56 of their own.

Carolina is now 7-4 overall on the season and 5-0 in road games. Up next, UNC will visit Liberty Sunday at 1 p.m.
