The ACC announced Tuesday that senior goalkeeper Claudia Dickey of the UNC women’s soccer team was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. The honor comes on the heels of two outstanding performances by Dickey in road wins over Illinois and Ohio State.

Across the two games, Dickey faced 23 shots, made ten saves and allowed only one goal across 180 minutes of action. Nine of Dickey’s saves came in a clean sheet performance against Ohio State, the most in a single game by an ACC goalkeeper this season. It was part of a stellar defensive effort by the Tar Heels in a 2-0 win.

It’s another honor for Dickey on the young season, as she was previously named to the watch list for the Hermann Award, which honors the nation’s top female collegiate player. In her career in Chapel Hill, Dickey has started 41 of a possible 67 games at goalkeeper for the Tar Heels.

Dickey and the rest of the women’s soccer team will be back in action this weekend at Dorrance Field. No. 2 Carolina will host Northwestern Thursday night at 7 p.m. before an enticing matchup with No. 10 Stanford Sunday at 1 p.m.
