After setting two program records during UNC’s 80-69 win over NC State on Saturday, Carolina senior center Armando Bacot was named the ACC Player of the Week Monday. It’s the second time in three weeks and third time this season Bacot has won the honor.

Bacot averaged 21.5 points and 17 rebounds per game in UNC’s home wins against Boston College and the Wolfpack, registering double-doubles in both to help him pass Billy Cunningham for the most such games in Carolina history. His 17th rebound against NC State also gave him the all-time program record. Bacot finished with 23 points and 18 boards against the Wolfpack, his 20th career game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Bacot has now posted 12 double-doubles this season and three consecutive games with at least 15 rebounds. With the exception of the game at Virginia in which he exited less than two minutes in with an ankle injury, Bacot has scored in double figures in every game he’s played this season.

Bacot received first team All-ACC honors in 2022 and was the runner-up in the voting for ACC Player of the Year. He was named preseason ACC Player of the Year for this season and a preseason All-American. He and the Tar Heels will be back in action Tuesday night when UNC travels to Syracuse. That game is scheduled to tip off at 9 p.m.
