UNC senior forward Armando Bacot received another prestigious preseason honor Monday. Bacot was named a preseason All-American by the Associated Press. He’s joined on the team by Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, Houston’s Marcus Sasser and Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Bacot has also been named preseason first team All-ACC and ACC Preseason Player of the Year. He and the Tar Heels are ranked No. 1 in the AP’s preseason Top 25 poll for the first time in seven years.

Bacot set a school record and tied the all-time Division 1 record with 31 double-doubles as a junior in the 2021-22 season. During the Tar Heels’ run through the NCAA Tournament, Bacot became the first player ever to record double-doubles in all six games. He averaged 16.1 points and 13.1 rebounds per game and shattered Carolina’s records for total rebounds (511, 95 more than second place) and games with 10 or more rebounds (32, nine more than second place). He was named first team All-ACC and was the runner-up for ACC Player of the Year.

Bacot and the Tar Heels will take the floor for the first time this season on Friday against Johnson C. Smith in an exhibition game.
