Following Carolina’s 41-31 win against Miami last weekend, four Tar Heels have been named ACC Players of the Week: quarterback Drake Maye, running back Omarion Hampton, receiver Tez Walker and linebacker Cedric Gray.
Maye has now been named the league’s quarterback of the week for the second straight time. Against Miami, he completed 17 of 33 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns. In addition, Maye was named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 List for the second straight week.
Hampton controlled the ground game against the Hurricanes, amassing 197 yards on 24 carries (8.2 yards per carry) and scoring two total touchdowns. Hampton leads the ACC with 109.7 yards per game this season (he is the only running back to average 100 yards per game) and is tied for second with eight rushing touchdowns.
Walker led the Tar Heels with six receptions for 132 yards and three touchdown catches. It’s the first three-touchdown game of the Kent State transfer’s career. The Miami game was only his second as a Tar Heel.
Gray led the UNC defense with 10 total tackles. His all-around effort against the Hurricanes included a tackle for loss, an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Gray’s performance also saw him eclipse the 300-tackle mark for his decorated collegiate career.
Maye, Hampton, Walker, Gray and the rest of the Tar Heels will be back in action when they host Virginia on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
