A Letter of Support for Jess Anderson

As a former mayor and North Carolina State Legislator, I am writing to offer my wholehearted support for Jess Anderson in her bid to be Mayor of Chapel Hill.
Having served in public office, I understand the complexities and challenges that come with leading a community. It takes vision, dedication, and a deep commitment to the well-being of everyone you serve. Over the years, I have been consistently impressed by Council Member Anderson’s unwavering dedication to these principles.
One of the pressing issues in this election is how Chapel Hill can grow sustainably while preserving its unique character. In our rapidly growing region, we must strike a balance between protecting our cherished environment and providing diverse housing types for our residents. It is also important that we continue to be economically resilient. Through her leadership on the Complete Community initiative – and as chair of the Council Committee on Economic Sustainability – Jess has demonstrated a keen understanding and willingness to achieve both.
Over two terms on Council, Jess has also shown she can work with diverse groups of people to foster the type of constructive dialogue that’s necessary to make decisions that benefit our entire community. Her commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and sustainability align perfectly with the values that I – and many other Chapel Hillians – hold dear.
In closing, I have every confidence that Jess possesses the leadership qualities, the vision, and the integrity to lead Chapel Hill forward. I strongly endorse her candidacy, and encourage you to join me in voting for her as Chapel Hill’s next mayor.
