The UNC men’s basketball team is ranked No. 19 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday.

Carolina is one of three ACC teams to earn the preseason recognition, as Duke checked in at No. 2 and Miami slotted in No. 16 ahead of the Tar Heels. Virginia was the only other conference foe to receive any votes.

Head coach Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2022-23 season which saw them debut at No. 1 in the AP preseason poll but miss the NCAA Tournament entirely. Carolina is the first team to do that since the tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1985.

Returning to UNC this season are stars R.J. Davis and Armando Bacot, along with reserves Seth Trimble and Jalen Washington. They are joined by a host of newcomers, including highly-touted freshman guard Elliot Cadeau, who reclassified into this year’s recruiting class to join the Tar Heels. Hubert Davis also signed numerous transfers, including former ACC foes Cormac Ryan from Notre Dame and Jae’Lyn Withers from Louisville.

Carolina will host an exhibition in the Smith Center against St. Augustine’s on October 27 at 7:30 p.m. before officially beginning the regular season at home against Radford on November 6 at 7 p.m.
