This month’s First Watch First Responder, presented by First Watch, The Daytime Cafe at East 54 , is Jason Jones, of UNC Hospitals’ Carolina Air Care team!

As a member of UNC Hospitals’ Carolina Air Care team, Jason Jones has been a Registered Nurse for 21 years and also worked as a Flight Nurse, supporting patient care on the front lines since 2000.

During treatment of COVID-19 in North Carolina, Jason has played a major role in transporting patients and helped create the process for ambulances to support initial testing sites and assisted in staffing them when needed. He also helped disperse PPE to different transport bases for crews and collaborated on training videos for staff, which include demonstrations of putting on and removing PPE. Jason also participated in additional training on airway, ventilator management and critical care of patients experiencing complications from COVID-19.

He has transported patients by ambulance, helicopter and fixed wing in North Carolina to UNC Hospital for tertiary care, working nights, weekends and overtime. Jason’s peers respect his commitment to the team, his clinical expertise and his passion for taking care of patients. Front line healthcare workers like Jason Jones are vital to the success when battling COVID-19.

Congratulations, Jason Jones, for your many contributions and for recognition as the First Watch First Responder of the month.
