Community members in Orange County and Chatham County may see light snow flurries Monday afternoon and evening as a band of precipitation passes through the Triangle region.

The Raleigh branch of the National Weather Service alerted residents shortly after 4 p.m. a band of rain and snow mix was predicted to move east across the state. Shortly after, community members and local social media users all confirmed falling snowflakes from Hillsborough to Carrboro and Durham, the region’s first snow of the winter.

While some snow may fall over the course of evening hours, the National Weather Service said North Carolinians should not expect any major impacts from the precipitation. The low temperature predicted for the area on Monday night is 28 degrees.
