UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police said westbound Fordham Boulevard is reopened to normal traffic patterns as of 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Below is the original story.
Overnight storms felled trees along a popular thoroughfare in Chapel Hill on Tuesday, leaving morning travelers to find a detour.
The Chapel Hill Police Department shared shortly after 6 a.m. that town crews were responding to a pair of trees down on westbound Fordham Boulevard between Manning Drive and South Columbia Street. Photos showed one tree entirely across the westbound lanes of the road, while another blocked just one lane of traffic.
As of 7:45 a.m., the area was still closed off to all traffic. Chapel Hill Police encouraged drivers to detour by using Manning Drive and South Columbia Street for the time being until the trees were cleared.
