For 12 years running, UNC has set a new record for first-year applications for the upcoming academic year.
More than 40,000 students applied to the university before the January 16 deadline. That’s a nearly 14 percent increase over the number of applicants last year, the second-largest increase in the last 25 years.
Vice Provost for Enrollment and Undergraduate Admissions Stephen Farmer said the university is “humbled by the interest shown in us by so many terrific students from all over the world.”
All those students now await their decisions from the university. Those who applied in October will receive a decision by the end of January. The rest will have to wait until the end of March.
Transfer students can still apply to the university before February 15.
UNC expects to enroll about 5,000 total students in the fall of 2017.
