The UNC Police Department is investigating a body found at the Forest Theatre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The university shared a message with the campus community through its Alert Carolina system, saying police officers responded to a call at the amphitheater off Country Club Road around 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found one deceased individual.

UNC said there is no ongoing threat to the community’s safety, but the investigation is ongoing and the scene at the Forest Theatre is still active. The university also shared suicide prevention information with its message on Saturday.

The UNC Police crime log listed the death as a suicide which occurred at 2:35 a.m. Saturday. The case status remains open.

The Forest Theatre is currently hosting Paperhand Puppet Intervention, a production which performs at the venue during weekends each fall. The production shared via instagram that Saturday evening’s performance would proceed.

“The show will carry on tonight, imbued with our intention to offer forth avenues of hope and healing in the wake of loss and tragedy,” read the Paperhand Puppet Intervention post.
