For the second straight year, Forbes Magazine has named UNC as one of 20 “New Ivies,” a group of schools which are “attracting the best and the brightest and graduating students that are outpacing most Ivy Leaguers in the eyes of employers,” according to a release. The list debuted in 2024.
The list of 20 schools includes 10 public and 10 private institutions. UNC is the only public or private North Carolina school on the list and is one of six public schools to make its second consecutive appearance. The other public schools are Georgia Tech, Purdue, Texas, the United States Military Academy, Illinois, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Virginia and William & Mary.
Forbes compiled the list by analyzing recent admissions date from the National Center of Education studies, then reviewing enrollment, admission rate and standardized test scores. A survey of employers pared a larger group of schools down to 10 public and 10 private institutions.
