UNC has once again been listed by the US News & World Report as one of the top public universities in the country and the best value among national public universities.

The university checks in at No. 30 in the overall university rankings, tying with the University of California – Santa Barbara and New York University and fifth, again tied with UCSB, among public universities.

The Chapel Hill campus also ranks first once again as the nation’s best value among public universities.

“Our students, faculty and staff’s commitment to excellence is evident in Carolina’s placement among the top five public universities for the 18th consecutive year,” UNC – Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol L. Folt said in a release on Monday morning. “As we remain steadfast in our mission of serving the public in our state and around the world, we will continue to make a world-class education affordable, conduct ground-breaking research and lead in innovation for the future.”

The US News & World Report rankings are based on measures including graduation and retention rates, assessment of academic quality, faculty resources, student excellence and financial resources.

UNC continues to provide “need-blind admissions and proudly meets 100 percent of the documented need of undergraduates qualify for need-based aid who apply on time and meets more than two-thirds of that need with grants and scholarships,” according to the university.

Folt has also prioritized the Carolina Covenant program, which began in 2003. The program ensures that students who earn admission to UNC and are financially eligible graduate from the university debt-free.

University officials said 14 percent of the Class of 2022 qualified for the Carolina Covenant program.
