UNC said it has received multiple confirmations of COVID-19 cases among its campus community.

An Alert Carolina message to students, faculty and staff on Saturday said the university has multiple positive cases, but did not list a specific number. The release said the individuals would not be identified nor will any additional information be shared in order to protect their confidentiality.

“UNC-Chapel Hill understands that this situation is concerning and wants to assure you that a great deal is being done to ensure the health and well-being of the campus community,” the university said in its alert.

UNC previously shared an Alert Carolina with the community when an employee tested positive on Tuesday for the new coronavirus. Orange County health officials later clarified the individual did not test positive while in the county.

In response to the spreading virus, the university recently made the decision to significantly reduce campus operations, asking students to move out of residence halls and limiting campus dining services.
