This is the 11th coronavirus cluster on UNC’s campus. Over the weekend, the university reported clusters at Craige and Avery residence halls and Alpha Delta Pi sorority house.
Updates to the university’s COVID-19 dashboard on Monday revealed that 31.3 percent of UNC’s tests among students during the week of August 17 through August 23 returned positive. This is an increase from 13.6 percent the week prior. Overall, 505 students tested positive last week.
UNC-Chapel Hill is reporting 835 cumulative cases on campus — 784 students, 51 employees — since the university first began testing for the virus in March.
Classes at the university are currently paused while undergraduate students transition to virtual learning for the remainder of the fall semester.
