Replacement of an Orange County bridge is causing a detour until August.

North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors were scheduled to close a portion of University Station Road bridge where it crosses Stony Creek just south of Interstate 85 beginning Monday morning. Crews anticipate the bridge replacement will take until August to complete, according to a release.

Officials say local traffic will still be able to access locations up to the point of closure on either side of the bridge.

The current bridge, which was constructed in 1956, “no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it and has reached the end of its life cycle.”

A detour will be established around the closure in both directions utilizing Old State Highway 10, Lawrence Road, US Highway 70 Business and University Station Road.
