Motorists in Chapel Hill may experience delays near the heart of the town from now until January 7 due to an area beautification project.

The project entails the removal of four trees along West Cameron Avenue between South Graham and Kenan streets.

Traffic will be diverted from that road segment onto Franklin and other adjacent streets during the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM through Thursday of this week.

Four trees on Franklin Street are also scheduled to be removed during the first week of January, but no detours for that operation have been announced by the municipal government.

Trees selected for removal were determined to be in varying states of decay by a coalition of city officials and contractors.

Replacements for those trees will be planted this spring in order to help the town maintain its 17-year status as an Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA.
