Work to replace an aging bridge in Orange County will lead to closures and detours for several months.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation shared an alert on Thursday to tell residents that work to replace a bridge along New Hope Church Road is set to begin on Monday, April 25. Just west of Interstate 40, contractors with the state will begin preparation for construction near Willow Blair Place and Foxlair Road.
According to NCDOT, the bridge replacement above New Hope Creek is predicted to take about four months. Drivers and residents can expect to see closures starting as early as 9 a.m. on Monday.
Drivers are asked to use detours along Interstate 40 and Old N.C. 86 to get around the full closure. NCDOT suggests motorists be mindful of signage posted around New Hope Church Road and to be aware of construction crews entering and exiting work zones.
Additionally, the state department announced two other projects in Alamance County. One is a similar bridge replacement starting on Monday — as the Durham Street Extension will be closed just south of Routh Road near Elon for six months. The other is a wave of nightly closures this weekend and into next week along Interstate 40/85. NCDOT is working to widen a bridge over the interstate that’s part of the Mebane Oaks Road interchange.
