Ernest Jackson of Durham spent $30 on a scratch-off ticket last week and it’s seeming like a smart investment. Jackson’s ticket gave him a $100,000 win.

The North Carolina Education Lottery shared a release saying Jackson bought the ticket from a convenience store in Cary and collected his prize on Friday. After required state and federal taxes, Jackson will take home $71,019.

The ticket was from the game ‘200X The Cash,’ which debuted in March. The game features six top prizes of $5 million and 18 prizes of $100,000, one of which fell into the hands of Jackson. As of Monday, five of the six $5 million tickets remain, as well as 14 $100,000 tickets.

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, ticket sales from scratch-off games raise more than $900 million per year for education, with $13.9 million of that going to Durham County in 2021.
