UPDATE: The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Douglass Whipple was safely located around noon on Monday in Patrick Country, Virginia.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office issued a Silver Alert on Monday morning, asking for the public’s help in locating a man with dementia.
The office shared that 74-year-old Douglas Whipple was reported missing by his wife on Sunday around 9:07 p.m. Whipple, who also is hearing impaired, left his home on North Serenity Hill Circle and was last known to be driving to the McDonald’s franchise in North Chatham Village — a shopping center off U.S. 15-501 in the Chapel Hill part of the county.
Silver Alerts are issued by local law enforcement when a person who has a cognitive impairment is reported missing.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons, which helps share Silver Alerts, described Whipple as a white man with white hair, a moustache, and wearing glasses. The center says he was last seen wearing a gray and green pullover jacket with shorts and loafers.
