Orange County emergency officials removed a bleeding man from a vehicle on NC 86 South Monday.

Authorities said that a passing motorist saw blood on the side of a vehicle Monday when a man was in a vehicle in the median of NC 86 between Sheetz and the Hampton Pointe shopping center. Authorities closed NC 86 between the shopping center and I-85 during the investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene, where the man told the other motorist that he had been stabbed. The man in the vehicle did have a prior injury, according to the sheriff’s office, but he then refused to exit the vehicle and claimed to have a gun. Authorities added the man “threw a suicide note out of the car.”

Law enforcement used “less than lethal means” to remove the man from the vehicle after negotiations failed. Officials said the man suffered no additional injuries and no one else was injured. The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Authorities said the man, who they did not identify, has an active warrant taken out Sunday in Belmont, North Carolina, for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
