****6:45 p.m. update: Crews are working to reopen roadways and restore power after Thursday afternoon’s storms. One eastbound lane of East Franklin Street has reopened at Plant Road. Some traffic lights are running on generator power. Duke Energy is reporting that power has been restored to some areas. Nearly 3,000 customers are still without power in Orange County.****

Chapel Hill emergency officials said that East Franklin Street is closed at Plant Road approaching Estes Drive. Storms rolling through the area Thursday afternoon caused a tree to fall into a power line.

There are reports of trees down across Orange County.

Duke Energy is reporting that roughly 5,000 customers are without power around Chapel Hill. Piedmont Electric is also reporting outages in Orange County.

The Chapel Hill Public Library has closed after losing power.

Chapel Hill Police reported that phone lines were down at the police station. Anyone with an emergency should call 911.
