Since being founded in 2015, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Town of Chapel Hill summer food program has served hundreds of thousands of meals during the gap between academic years. Starting next week, the program will be back and feeding even more local students.
The CHCCS district announced its Food for Students program will begin again on Tuesday, June 21 and will be open to any students aged 18 and younger. The initiative, initially named Food for the Summer before being expanded to a year-round project, provides free meals and enrichment activities all summer long at community sites.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 summer, Food for Students operated in a drive-thru style. This year, though, students will required to eat the meals on-site — based on requirements from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. But the locations are open and students are not required to go to any one location to receive meals.
Here are the sites and times Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools shared for the Summer Food for Students program. Each location will be open Mondays through Thursdays, except for holidays, and students can pick up meals for Fridays on Thursdays.
