Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Orange County Schools will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, September 18.

CHCCS was closed on Monday due to flooding from Hurricane Florence in Chapel Hill and other areas of Orange County. The school district was initially going to operate on a delay, but made the decision to cancel classes altogether after the flooding became more severe. Officials barricaded off roads and residents of multiple apartment complexes were forced to evacuate.

In a release, CHCCS says that maintenance teams have been working to get facilities operational throughout the day but they will continue to monitor the facilities and road conditions overnight. More rain is expected in the forecast tonight as the effects from Hurricane Florence continue to spread throughout North Carolina.

If any changes need to be made to the schedule, CHCCS will announce them as early as possible.

Orange County Schools opened on a normal schedule Monday but dismissed early.
