The popular Morgan Creek Trail and Merritt’s Pasture in Chapel Hill will see closures this week for scheduled repairs.
The Town of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation department recently shared the news, saying the eastern end of the trail and all of the pasture will be closed beginning Monday. The department said it expects the work to take up to five days to complete.
The Morgan Creek Trail will remain open from the trail head and parking lot off of Fordham Blvd and NC Highway 54 to the Fan Branch Trail connector and 1.6 mile Fan Branch Trail. For safety reasons, the town is asking everyone to honor the closure area until the work has been completed.
The Town of Chapel Hill recently closed its Parks and Recreation facilities, including parks, dog parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, tennis, volley ball and pickleball courts, in an effort to mitigate the ongoing spread of COVID-19. In addition, all indoor recreation and aquatic facilities are closed and all recreation programs are canceled until further notice. Chapel Hill’s greenways and cemeteries, however, remain open, including the Morgan Creek Trail.
If residents have any questions about the closure to the Morgan Creek Trail and Merritt’s Pasture, they are encouraged to contact Marcia Purvis, the senior park planner for Chapel Hill’s Parks and Recreation department.
