While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how this holiday season looks and feels, the Hillsborough Police Department is making the most of it by planning an outdoor holiday wonderland.
A no-contact, drive-thru toy drive will be part of the event, which is scheduled for the evening of Dec. 17 at the department substation on Rainey Ave.
The outdoor wonderland is taking place instead of the usual visit to the lobby by Santa and Mrs. Claus — where the pair would listen to children’s wishes.
The police department is still seeking toy donations from the community, even extending the deadline through noon on the day of the event.
Toys can be dropped off at the main police station on North Churton St. on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Large green bins marked specifically for the toy drive will be outside.
The Hillsborough Police Department also said online orders delivered straight to the station will also be accepted.
