Heather Jones of Bear Creek in Chatham County won a $150,000 prize playing the game “Fire and Spice,” the North Carolina Education Lottery announced last week. She claimed her prize – which, after required federal and state taxes, comes to $107,633 – at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday. Jones said she plans to use her winnings to pay for her daughter’s college tuition.
In the digital instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. Jones played $30 to win the top prize. The North Carolina Education Lottery says the odds of winning the top prize are one-in-1,000,000. Fire and Spice is one of 36 different digital instant games offered by the lottery.
