The second annual Next Tech Showcase is coming up at the Carrboro Century Center on Saturday.
The event features a range of tech games and experiences created by students which attendees can play for free.
Garrison Reed, with the Academy of Information Technology at Chapel Hill High, says that while last year’s Next Tech Showcase focused specifically on virtual reality, this year’s will cover a wider range of interactive sciences and technologies, including robotics.
“A few months prior to last year we were working with these different student groups and trying to find a way to bring them all together,” says Reed. “Part of that was having a way to showcase the student work, in particular with virtual realty.”
Among those student groups is FemStem, who will be assisting attendees with the virtual reality experience.
FemStem was started by Chapel Hill High student Nicole Bell when she was a freshman and four years later she she’s seen the group grow to 11 members.
“I have to say the best part [was] just meeting a bunch of different kids who were just super excited to do virtual reality, and we’re hoping to see that again, of course,” says Bell. “The excitement to share technology with other people is really awesome.”
The Next Tech Showcase takes place on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m.
