Chatham County is all set to welcome its long-awaited permanent dog park on Monday, March 15.

With open hours from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, the dog park at The Park at Briar Chapel will feature separate sections for big and small dogs, shaded benches, water fountains and dedicated stations for dog waste. All dogs must be leashed until safely inside the park, and dogs must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies and be current on their shots for canine distemper in order to play inside the fence.

“Based on the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a dog park was the sixth-highest facility most requested by households. We are excited to add this amenity to The Park at Briar Chapel,” said Chatham County parks and recreation director Tracy Burnett. “Our department was fortunate enough to qualify for a grant from the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund in order to make this project possible.”

Dog owners are required to stay inside the fence with their dogs at all times, and while COVID-19 remains an issue in our community, all parkgoers must wear a face covering and work to maintain six feet of social distance.
