The Carrboro community came together to solve a major problem and salvage a key food distribution event in town.
On March 25, a delivery truck that was heading to a food distribution event in Carrboro got stuck in a ditch. In order to save the food, the Carrboro Fire and Police Departments, public works staff and volunteers formed a human chain to move the food from the stuck truck to another one.
“Thank goodness for the fire department, public works and all of our volunteers who came to help us because that would have been very challenging if we didn’t have all the help,” said Ivan Sarabia from the Orange County Department of Social Services.

Thanks to the community effort, organizers were able to deliver the food to the distribution event — which feeds over 200 families in the local area.
“We had potatoes, cucumbers, boxes of pre-packaged stuff,” said Sarabia, “It was heavy stuff. It wasn’t anything light, but we got it done.”
