****UPDATED: Officials have lifted the boil water advisory.****
A boil water advisory has been issued for a portion of Hillsborough.
Officials say water customers “on and near” Governor Burke Road are advised to boil “all water for human consumption.” The advisory was issued after a water main break was discovered.
The properties affected by the advisory include those on the town’s water system on Governor Burke Road from NC 57 to NC 86 and on NC 86 between Governor Burke Road and Shawnee Drive.
Customers who live north of US 70 may also experience a drop in pressure due to maintenance at a town water tank, but those areas are not included in the advisory.
Tests are being conducted on the water and should be received by three o’clock Thursday afternoon, according to a release from the town, and residents will be notified when the advisory has been lifted.
Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water, according to the town. Officials also encourage pregnant women or infants under the age of six months to use an alternate water supply, including bottled water.
