The Chapel Hill Police Department announced it has a suspect in custody for the September 27 shooting at the University Gardens apartment complex in Chapel Hill.
Michael Jerome Henry, 29, of Durham was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals with the Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to a release.
Henry is facing five charges, including murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Orange County Detention Center without bond.
The shooting at University Gardens, a housing community in the 800 block of Pritchard Avenue Extension, left one dead, later identified as 51-year-old Chapel Hill resident Michael Deshai Lee. Three others were injured in the shooting.
“Our officers and investigators have worked around the clock since this shooting occurred last week to bring some closure to Mr. Lee’s family and to reassure our concerned community,” said Chapel Hill Police Chief Chris Blue. “We are so appreciative for the many community members who have shared information about this case and to our partners with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their efforts to bring Mr. Henry to justice without delay or incident.”
