A suspect is in custody after a robbery at an Orange County convenience store led to a police chase early Tuesday morning.
Authorities said a suspect approached the clerk at the Circle K on US 70 in Hillsborough near St. Mary’s Road and asked for change. The suspect then reached over the counter when the clerk opened the register, according to law enforcement, and “grabbed a handful of money from the drawer.”
The suspect fled in a white vehicle, which was located near Cole Mill Road in Durham. As the vehicle pulled over, the suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Durham Police were called in to assist and a K-9 unit helped lead authorities to Brandon Lamar Wiggins, who officials said was “found hiding nearby.”
Authorities said the vehicle Wiggins was allegedly driving had been reported stolen in Franklin County.
Wiggins was arrested and charged with common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was placed under a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.
