The Chapel Hill Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a motorist or footage of an incident from Saturday morning along Fordham Boulevard.

A release from the department said a hit and run incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. along the busy street. Police say a victim described his vehicle being hit by another vehicle nearby while attempting to merge.

When the two motorists pulled over onto a service road near the School of Rock building, the driver who made contact exited their car and fired at least two shots from a handgun at the victim. According to the release, the bullets struck the victim’s vehicle, but the victim was not injured from the shooting nor the crash.

Chapel Hill Police say the suspect in the hit and run was driving a dark-colored Oldsmobile sedan and describe it as having “lots of damage.”

Authorities are seeking any information or video footage of the incident. Those with details are encouraged to call 911 or the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers hotline at 919-942-7515. Saturday’s release said information that leads to an arrest in the case may be rewarded up to $2,000.
