The principal of a Wayne County charter school who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 12-year old student was found dead in Orange County from an apparent suicide.

Orange County officials confirmed that 35-year old Richard Omar Knight was found in a wooded area near 5411 West Ten Road in Mebane on Friday. Two hunters called 911 when they found the body.

Knight, the principal of Dillard Academy at the time, had been suspended by the school after the allegations were made. A warrant for statutory rape, sex act with a student, and indecent liberties with a student had been issued for Knight.

According to officials, the hunters’ deer cameras recorded Knight in the wooded area at approximately 12:36 a.m. on Friday morning. Knight was alone in the video and appeared to be carrying a blanket. Officials then discovered Knight’s Chevrolet Cruze at the Petro Mart on Buckhorn Road. No foul play is suspected in connection with this case.
