The recent discovery of a body off Leigh Farm Road has police searching for more information.

The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting reported Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Leigh Farm Road, which is just past the Orange County line off North Carolina Highway 54.

Police found the victim, identified as 29-year-old Alvin Norwood Jr., after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle shortly after 8:30 a.m. According to a release from the department, officers declared Norwood dead at the scene and say he appeared to have been shot inside the vehicle.

The department said based on a preliminary investigation, authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the immediate area. No further details on Norwood’s death are available at this time.

Leigh Farm Road is a dead-end street leading to Leigh Farm Park, an 82-acre property where the 19th century Leigh family house, dairy and enslaved peoples cabins stand. The park is managed by Durham Parks and Recreation. The Apartments at Palladian Place complex and the Leigh Farm Lift Station are also located off Leigh Farm Road.
