An Angier man has been charged in connection with a construction vehicle accident that killed a five-year-old Hillsborough boy on Monday.
Officials say Alejandro Suarez has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle for the incident that occurred in the Forest Ridge subdivision off of US 70-A.
Authorities say Hillsborough officers responded to a 911 call on Dogwood Bloom Lane just before one o’clock Monday afternoon. The boy was struck by a construction vehicle and transported to Duke University Hospital. Officials say the truck was being loaded with dirt when it rolled away from its work area.
The truck eventually came to rest after damaging several properties and colliding with a house at 205 Dogwood Bloom Lane.
“At this point, we don’t believe the vehicle was properly secured,” Hillsborough Police Chief Duane Hampton said in a release. “We will also be following up the investigation, looking at the mechanical condition of the vehicle and confirming all of the working relationships, regarding specifically which company the crew was working for.”
Officials say Suarez was determined to be responsible for control of the vehicle. He was placed in the Orange County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
