The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting Friday morning in the 100 block of Creel Street.
A release from the town said the police department responded to a call from a victim with a gun shot wound at 5:30 a.m. Friday. Ezzard Charles Stroud Jr., age 50, was found deceased in his home. Police said they believe there is no active threat to the community.
Creel Street is part of the Pine Knolls neighborhood which contains a mix of single-family residential houses and student-rental houses.
Anyone who may have information relevant to this shooting investigation is encouraged to contact the Chapel Hill Police Department which can be reached by phone at 919-968-2760. Community members can also use the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline for the greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro community, which is 919-942-7515. Chapel Hill Police said information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for an award of up to $2,000.
Chapel Hill Police say this is still under investigation.
