Chapel Hill Police are investigating a late-Wednesday night shooting.

Authorities said in an overnight release that officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at the 1701 North Apartments complex on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday.

That address places the shooting near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Blvd and Weaver Dairy Road in northern Chapel Hill.

One 23-year-old male victim was transported to UNC Hospitals with a single gunshot wound, police said in an update Thursday after the initial release said the victim was shot multiple times. Authorities said there were multiple shots fired during the incident. The victim was recovering from surgery Thursday morning.

Police said they believe “this is an isolated incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the shooting is asked to call 911.
