An assault in the early morning hours of Saturday left one person injured and Chapel Hill Police searching for suspects.
A release from the department said that police officers responded to a report of an assault around 12:24 a.m. at a parking deck at 123 West Franklin Street — which is by the Carolina Square apartment complex, the Target store and the student community Granville Towers. According to Chapel Hill Police, a security guard called 911 after seeing “several people leave the scene of an altercation” in the area.
Upon arrival, police report officers found a 23-year-old man with “serious injuries.” Saturday’s release said investigators do not believe the assault was random.
Chapel Hill Police said the investigation into the assault is ongoing and no further information is available as of Saturday morning. The department’s release said anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 911 or contact Chapel Hill Police directly at 919-968-2760. Police said information that leads to an arrest in the case could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
